Dock Of The Bay

I have traveled many long journeys
But I've come home at the end of the day
Watching the boats roll in with the tide
As I sit here on the dock of the bay.

I left my home so long ago
Constantly seeking something I never found
Though I roamed from coast to coast
My mind was always homeward bound.

Here where the lights shine over the bay
Is where I have longed to be
On the dock where I spent my childhood years
I drift back to the memory

I've watched the sun rise over the water
I have seen the fishing-boats bound for the sea
Now I eagerly wait for them to return
For this will bring back my chilhood to me.

Home is where my heart is
And home is where I intend to stay
I am now content to waste time and dream
Sitting here on the dock of the bay.

There is nowhere on earth as peaceful as sitting on the dock of a bay
watching the fishing boats as they come and go.
Those of us lucky enough to have these kind of memories
of our childhood are indeed fortunate.
