Street People

Where do they go at night time?
These people of the street.
They're standing there and then they're gone.
Their day is now complete.

Do they find some place to shelter?
A soft pillow to lay their heads?
Does the cold hard ground or park bench
Take the place of warm soft beds?

He's standing on the corner
Staring into space.
A total look of hopelessness
Is written on his face.

She's sitting alone on the park bench
Tears roll from her eyes.
No one cares to stop and ask
The reason why she cries.

Look out in the city park.
Glance there under the trees.
They're waiting for a new chance at life
But no one even sees.

How many precious lives must we lose
To the danger that is constantly there?
All it would take is a bit of our time
To help them and show them we care.

This poem is dedicated to the thousands of homeless people
throughout this world of ours.
They have many different reasons for being where they are.
Some because they want to be. Others are there through circumstances
entirely out of their control. They only need for their situation
to be looked at in a compassionate light
with understanding and love.
