Hey Shorty

I was walking down the street one day
When I heard a voice ring out.
"Hey Shorty!" so I turned to see
Who they were talking about.

I looked and looked all around
But not a short person did I see.
Then quickly I came to realize
They were yelling at me.

Well surely this can't be me they mean
For I've always been tall and stately.
Then as I thought carefully about it
I have noticed some changes lately.

The jeans I was always so proud of
Are so long they now hide my feet.
I now have to roll them up several times
Before I can even walk down the street.

That pretty sweater I loved to wear
Was just perfect for me if you please.
Now it looks like it belongs to someone else
For it hangs down way past my knees.

I wonder if age has something to do
With the inches that seemed to disappear.
With horror I wonder what I'll look like
When I look in the mirror next year.

As we get older our bodies do tend to shrink.
It seems to creep up on us without us knowing it. Then all
of a sudden we notice our clothes are far too long.
Many of us blame it on the washing machine or the dryer.
In fact we blame it on anything and everything except
admitting it's due to old age.
But as long as we remain young at heart
that's all that really matters.
