A Puppy's Christmas

So this is Christmas
That magical time of year.
When loved ones gather together
Filling the home with holiday cheer

Children's eyes gleam with excitement
As they see the presents under the tree.
I cannot help but wonder
Which of these children will get me.

I watch in anticipation
As all the family gather round.
Christmas fills their hearts with love
Happy laughter the only sound.

I have been so patiently waiting
In my little basket under the tree
Hoping that one of these children
Will be the right one for me.

A smiling child steps forward
Whispering "My only wish is for you".
As she gathers me from the basket I know
Our Christmas wishes for love have come true.
