Have you ever seen a Mandarin
As he glides across England's lakes?
Have you noticed his beautiful plumage
And the distinctive call he makes?

Have you ever watched a Mandarin
As he courts a willing mate?
Have you seen the way he arches his head
As his female awaits her fate?

Have you ever noticed a Mandarin
As he does his warrior's dance?
Or watched the way he presents himself
In a bold and upright stance?

Have you had the pleasure of seeing
A Mandarin with his family?
Or watched his little ducklings
As they emerge from the nest in a tree?

We consider ourselves privileged
Because we have seen all this and more
We have Mandarin's living in our garden
Adding to it beauty and colour galore.
