Softly on the wings of night, love came
And stood outside my window apart
Over and over it whispered my name
And tore at the strings of my heart.

It cared not a bit that I said love is done
For it knew what lay deep inside.
And though I felt I had no one
It held on to the tears that I've cried.

"Go away" I told it, "you're not wanted here"
"Don't you know love has no hold on me?"
But silently it waited without any fear
Knowing that finally the truth I would see.

That there is someone waiting for me who does care
Someone to hold closely to.
Who will lift me from my depth of despair
And embrace me with a love ever true.
