Like A Rock
The old man sat on his front porch
Thinking back on his many years.
He had a look of sadness on his face
And in his eyes there gleamed a hint of tears.
He remembered back when he was young
And how he stood straight and tall.
Facing the world with joy in his heart
And showing no worries at all.
He thought about when he met a young beauty
And took her to be his loving wife.
Together they raised their children
Believing in the goodness of life.
He stood like a rock for his family
Protecting them from any manner of harm.
And when they needed a shoulder to lean on
He would fold them within his strong arm.
They watched with pride as their children grew
Till one by one they had each moved away.
Then they found themselves alone again
As they were on their first wedded day.
They cherished each moment together
Till one day the angels drew near.
He stood there in pain as he told her goodbye
And vowed to shed not a tear.
Now he sits alone and remembers
When like a rock he stood straight and tall.
As he waits to join with his love once again
When the angels make their final call.

When we have raised our children with pride and have
lost our lifelong mate, we can only sit and remember the
good times and wait to be reunited once again. For most
of us those memories bring a serenity that puts our soul
at ease.
