Life's Poems

Slowly she walked to the ocean
With sorrow deep in her heart.
She cried out for the years gone by her.
When she felt from others so apart.

Her eyes showed the sadness within her
As alone she stood baring her soul.
She thought back over her many years
Wondering if she had fulfilled her role.

Her hair was now tinted with silver
Her skin shone with the softness of age.
Her life skimmed by in the back of her mind
As slowly she turned every page.

Then alone she walked away from the ocean
To her pen and paper where she turned every night.
Hoping that others might find solace and peace
Reading life's poems as only she could write.

How many of us look back over our lives and wonder
if we could have done things differently, would we have?
But the past cannot be changed. We can only choose how
we will face the future. In each of us there is that desire
to leave our mark in this world for others to see. And only
we alone can make that mark.
