I saw a tiny humming bird
Out in my yard today.
But when I walked up to him
He quickly flew away.

Then he flew back to me
And hovered there in space.
As if he could sense the sorrow
That was shining from my face.

His little wings beat rapidly
Yet he never moved from me.
And slowly I began to realize
What he wanted me to see.

Though sorrow is lodged deep in my soul
I must open up my heart.
Let the beauty of nature help me
Go onward to a fresh-new start.
