Forgotten Soldier

Hello World, I hope you don't mind
Me sending some mail to you.
But I don't have anyone else at home
To send my letters to.

I'm a lonely, frightened soldier
Forgotten here in a foreign land.
So if I get sort of tearful
I hope that you'll understand.

My buddies and I are always on call
Never knowing where we'll have to roam.
And we don't know how long we'll be here
Or even if we'll finally make it home.

I've watched them fight with tears in their eyes
And I've cried when I've seen them fall.
We don't know what each moment will bring
Or if we'll hear that final role call.

World, I want to ask this one thing of you
Please give everyone this message from me.
That we're all proud of what we're doing here
To help keep our homeland safe and free.

I'll tell you so long now, World
And if you don't hear from me anymore
You'll know this forgotten soldier has been called home
To a shining world of peace evermore.

This poem is dedicated to all the brave men and women who
serve our countries to help keep us safe and free. And a special
dedication to those who have paid the ultimate price to protect us.
And to all of you, we say. You are not now and will never
be "Forgotten".
