An Empty Shell

I'm just an empty shell
Of the person I used to be.
For I lost all reason for happiness
The day you no longer cared for me.

We shared so many happy hours
I must confess that I never knew.
Someday the dreams would all be gone
And I'd be left here crying over you.

You whispered just what I wanted to hear
You knew all the right things to say.
My heart was ripe for the taking
When you spoke to me on that first day..

You must have known I was lonely
So ready for someone like you.
You easily slipped past my defenses
Made me believe that love could be true.

Now I sit here alone in my sorrow
Wishing there was a way I could tell.
Of the heartache pouring forth from someone
Who is now a lonely, empty shell.

When you find yourself sitting alone and in sorrow,
the only thing you can do is look forward. Forward to a new day
and a new time in your life. Remember the past, not with sadness
but with understanding.
