I Only Cried Once

I only cried once today
As I remembered precious moments we'd share.
I thought I felt you watching me
But when I turned around you weren't there.

You gave me so very much happiness
And joy through your eight short years.
When I think back on all the fun we had
I can smile even through my many tears.

The way you'd run in circles
Whenever it was time for our walk.
And the way you'd sometimes look at me
Was as if I could almost hear you talk.

Missing you will continue to haunt me
Though the pain will slowly fade away.
The tears will hide deep inside me
And I only cried once today.
