A Watched Pot

A watched pot never boils
My Grandma said it was true.
So I put a pot on the stove and watched
To see what it would do.

I stood there anticipating
And much to my surprise.
The bubbles started bouncing around
I couldn't believe my eyes.

It didn't take much time at all
Before the water began to roil.
And then I realized for sure
A watched pot really does boil.

Then as I stood there waiting
I began to realize.
The meaning was so much deeper
Than what I could surmise.

I can see clearly now just what she meant
You must never hesitate.
For things won't get done without effort
Don't just stand and wait.

There are so many old sayings from past years.
Most of them have a hidden meaaning if we just take
a moment to think about them and understand.
